I finally made myself to read The Dragon’s Tail by Adam Williams. This book has been on my shelf since 2009. Yup, it was totally injustice of me to ignore this poor little thing just because I got it on sale thinking the full priced books will be more interesting. So last week I dedicated my time to read it.

It is about China during the cold war and the rise of China’s Cultural Revolution. Historical fiction usually gets me especially story’s about China or Germany. The political propaganda and show of dictatorship power control is scary. The author manage to capture true History facts and essence into the book. He was raised in China and is the fourth generation in his family to still be living and working in China so I’m definitely not doubting the author’s credentials. May I remind you that this is not some light reading. It needs concentration and imagination to understand this book. So for those who are not into the Historical thing, please choose another book and stop complaining books like these are boring.

The Dragon’s Tail is divided to 3 parts which highlights 3 main character.

1) Harry Airton, born and raise in China until the Japanese invasion left him orphaned and rootless.
2) Chen Tao, the childhood friend who he grew up with and who later betrayed Harry.
3) Peng Ziwei, the unlucky girl who Harry didn’t expect to fall in love and the scapegoat of Chen Tao.

Of course a little romance in the book wouldn’t hurt and I appreciate the intervals. Overall its pretty epic with high drama and political intrigue at the same time poetic and romantic.

BOOK SUMMARY
“China is the land of Harry Airton’s birth and privileged childhood – until the Japanese invasion leaves him orphaned and rootless. For twelve angry, disaffected years he has dreamed of returning. When the British Secret Services sees in Harry the perfect spy to send on a dangerous mission to Beijing, he finally get his chance. But under Mao’s regime, nothing is what it once was. Love is a deadly weapon, and conscience a choice of betrayals. For Harry to achieve his mission he must compromise all he ever believed, and risk losing everything he holds dear.”

That was not comforting. Seeing Tiger laying on the streets was devastating. My Babe and I carried Tiger back into the house and wrapped him up so we can bury the next morning. It’s so painful seeing that poor boy just laying there. Not moving. Not meowing. Just like sleeping. The maids cried, I cried, even my Babe cried. It was heartbreaking.

Abu on the other hand was nowhere to be seen. I think he was in shock. Maybe they were playing together when the incident happen or maybe he wasn’t with Tiger when it happen. Sometimes I wish cats could talk. It is not like Tiger to go out playing on the streets. He is a cat who rather sleeps/sits on the sofa even if the door is wide open (tested and proven many times).

The next morning, when we woke up. We found Abu sitting next to Tiger (all wrapped up of course), licking and sniffing. He understood. He saw us and gave the loudest meow you ever heard him meowing. He was telling us something. During the burial he didn’t move either. He just sat there watching us digging and heaving. Poor fella. Didn’t expect a cat could show so much brotherly love.

I miss Tiger. I miss his loud and irritating meow. I miss his big round eyes. I miss everything about him. I wish him lots of love and hope he’ll be happier up in Kitty Heaven. Tiger, mommy and daddy will always love you. Rest in peace boy.

IN LOVING MEMORY

Tiger Yeo aka Tiger Y. 1st April 2010 - 10th November 2010

This year was a little special compare to all the years where it mostly consist of party party party and more party (during the legal age of course). I celebrated it quietly with a family dinner. Not that I’m embarrassed of being 30 but rather something more meaningful, something with a feel of calmness, Zen like feeling. This year I also had the privileged of having Alyna, celebrating with me by my side. That lil’ munchkin can really melt my heart. I get all fuzzy every time I think of her.

Thanks to my sister and bro-in-law for giving me a pair of beautiful diamond ear-hoops. To my Babe who got me a nice studded diamond earrings, an awesome pendant locket (it’s never enough for a girl when it comes to diamonds) and dinner. Mummy, for always giving the most expensive present which no one can ever take it away from me (her love and more diamonds, I love you mummy). Dinner was big a** crabs, steam prawns, clams, lots of vegetables and fried bean curds. I apologize because there isn’t any pictures of the dinner/food. I was busy cracking the yummy crabs. It’s too delicious to take a pause and snap some shots.

It has been an enjoyable ride entering the big three-O. Having family and love ones around are even better but whatever it is, always keep your heart young. My heart has always stayed 21 *wink*.

Anyway, this is a video we made of Abu (the white one) and Tiger (orange striped). They’re both different breed as they were not from the same mommy. Though that may seem but they get along really well except for the occasional playful cat fight. We adopted Abu and Tiger is a foster cat whom we came to accept and love. Coincidentally, both juniors are of the same age, 6 months old. That makes life easier when they are ready to neuter.
